Name: Bethan Costigan Alias: The Bandit Age: 24 Gender: Female Played By: Teresa Palmer Height: 5' 11" Weight: 135lbs Build: Muscular, but underweight Hair: Blonde Eyes: Grey-blue Distinguishing Features: - Series of round, even scars down both sides of her ribs. - Faint but persistent scratch marks on her thighs. Likes: High and open places, loud music, fighting. Dislikes: Pretty much everything else. Powers: Augmented healing. She's not immortal, and can be hurt, but has abnormal resistance to both physical injury and other people's powers (where applicable) Trigger warnings: for violence, child abuse, self-harm, and mental illness (psychosis, paranoia, depression, and severe PTSD) | Bethan has never been what you'd call a happy person. Born to a loving family in New York, and very close to her twin brother Dara and her parents, she had a pretty good start, but even as an infant was stubborn and bad at sharing. She'd probably have grown up okay, though, except for what happened when she was six. Her father, who was fairly deep into some shady business, pissed off the wrong people at the wrong time. Bethan was the instrument of their revenge: she was snatched off the street and disappeared. Her family searched for her for a long time - long past the point where hope was lost, because she's not the only stubborn one. It was over a year before she was found, following a tip-off: her father and brother broke her out of the basement cell where she'd been held. She recovered physically remarkably quickly - the first sign of her powers - but the trauma lasted. She reacted with anger to her own perceived brokenness, particularly as she grew up. She got a reputation as a brawler, was kicked out of three different schools and two therapists' offices, and eventually dropped out of education altogether. She now works in a motor garage during the day, and at night dons motorcycle leathers and a helmet to go and fight people. Well, specifically criminals. More specifically, violent criminals, especially those who are attacking women. Bethan has a very strong sense of justice, but it's very much justice rather than mercy that drives her. She's a firm believer in the Greater Good, and will sacrifice people's happiness and lives if she thinks it's just - including, and in fact especially, her own. She's no longer actively suicidal, which she was for a long time, but she certainly doesn't value her own life, and seems to go out of her way to put it at risk - not just in fighting, but in other ways, like how she only wears her helmet for vigilante justice and not when she's actually biking. She's also extremely cagy and mistrustful, and hates to be touched. If you can get past all that (and it's a lot to get past), she does mean well. It's just that between the PTSD and depression, the anger issues, and the very black-and-white sense of morality, meaning well doesn't always mean doing well. If she decides she trusts you, treasure it - the people she trusts are the only people whose lives she'll place above doing the right thing. Right now, though, that list totals four people - her mother, her father, and her brothers - so don't get your hopes up. |
